Bone Up Brewing Company

Our beers celebrate American styles while taking inspiration from old-school Belgian techniques. Many are new spins on classic styles (often but not always making them a bit more hop-forward), all are fermented with our house yeast blend for added complexity. We brew a few year-round beers, but our gears are always turning, so you can expect a lot of one-offs, seasonal releases, and experimental batches. We love us some brewin', and we think you're gonna enjoy the fruits of our labor!

Excellent beer! Comfortable taproom. Great service! I'll definitely go back!

We loved visiting this new brewery! They are passionate about what they do and are eager to share.

Great beer. Good, friendly service. Good metal playing during my visit.

A very cool place! I love the ambiance and decor, plus the beers are superb as well. Anyone who bemoans the pretentious faux-industrial decor of many taprooms will appreciate the classic dive-bar groove here. Absolutely worth a visit, and you'll definitely want to come back.

Small brewery with a taproom that looks like a classic dive bar. Twelve rotating draft beers plus one cask. Typical bar food options, like pretzels and empanadas, are available in case you get hungry. They also offers conplimentary snacks with your drink (at least on a Thursday afternoon). Somewhat dog-friendly and has an outdoor seating area during the summer.

A chill and relaxing tap room. While most brewery tap rooms tend to be crowded and/or loud, Bone Up is small, intimate, and cozy. You can sit down with a...

Wasted Life

IPA - American

There's not much new to say about IPAs since there are five thousand or so other commercial examples out there, but it is a style that's a personal favorite of ours - we tend to prefer hops with the big, fruity, juicy flavors that are all the rage with the young'uns these days. But since this is our mainstay year-round IPA (don't worry, hopheads, we'll have plenty more variations on the style once we're rolling) we've tried to balance that out a bit (for everyday drinkin' we tend to prefer something that doesn't necessarily smell like a fruit salad with perfume on it) with some malty goodness and a dab or two of some slightly-more-nuanced hop varieties (don't get me wrong, we're all about intense flavor. But you wouldn't want an all-syrup Squishee every day, would you?). Needless to say, this is one you'll miss in between pours.

Shut Up Kelly!

Porter - Other

I used to work with a girl named Kelly who didn’t like dark beers until she drank my porter. Then every time I mentioned brewing within twenty feet of her, she’d ask, “Are you brewing your porter?” and then she’d start telling the same story I just told you, only ten thousand times longer. Eventually, I brewed the porter again in the hopes of getting her to shut up about it. It didn’t work, but the beer was a keeper.

Extra Naked

Cream Ale

Since we like a taste of home in our beers, we set our sights on the fabled Unicorn of American Brewing: a beer that's light (in color/body/etc.) that won't let you down in the flavor department. And lo, we done it! We took a cream ale and goosed it with some good ol' Bone Up magic, and made a tasty brew that'll disappear from your glass before you know it and then you'll have to try and convince your roommate to get you more so you don't have to get up. I’m told that the British call that “moreishness.” There, you learned something today. Go ahead and crack one open, you earned it.

El Pulpo

Stout - American Imperial / Double

In keeping with our commitment towards not dumping a bunch of weird goop in our beers, this inky black stout's made with real-ass orange peel and a whole lotta Taza cocoa nibs. It’s a surprisingly smooth sip of suds that gives you a good warm tingle in your belly.

Oh My!

IPA - American

Sometimes you just gotta have an old-school citrus-and-pine IPA, so we took some Classic American Hops and chucked them in the kettle with some Cascade from our friends down the road and mixed in just a *pinch* of Bone Up Magic. We ain't gonna strip the enamel off your teeth, but we are gonna give you a solid beer for solid times. Enjoy.

We brewed this beer to bring joy into your life (or, more accurately, because BeerAdvocate told us we needed to bring a special release to the Microbrew Invitational)!

Golden Ale

Our take on a classic Oktoberfest staple is made to showcase the toasty breadiness of grains we got from Blue Ox Malthouse, as well as some freshass fruity hoppiness from our friends at Four Star Farms. This malty masterpiece ain't gonna disappoint - Prost!

Ruby Rye

English Mild Ale

We're more determined than ever to convince people that darker beers fare better when it's warm and sunny out, so we cooked up a toffee 'n' roast easy quaffer to show them beach beers who's boss.

Brown Ale - American

We partnered up with the Movember Foundation for this beer, so we obviously had to go with the manliest of beer styles: brown ale. It's the chest hair of beer - not everybody likes it, but it's here to stay so you might as well just roll with it and enjoy the ride.

Jimbo Jaliper

Belgian Tripel

This mutt of a beer is the bastard child of a saison, a double IPA, and a tripel - born by accident and kept by happy coincidence. It has the hoppiness of an IPA, the spicy pepperiness of a tripel, and a fistful of rye. It's a sensorial thrill ride, and we don't think you'll be disappointed.

Saison / Farmhouse Ale

You ever drink a beer and ask (possibly out loud) "what if this was just way more purple than it really needs to be?" Neither have we, but it's apparently a burning question for our sales guy Josh, so we made his dream a reality!

Vye-Olent World

Bière de Garde

After we used Blue Ox malt for Bullhead, we were a bit smitten so we ordered a whole bunch more without really having any plan on what to make with it. Then one day, inspiration struck in the form of a terrible pun, and a plan was hatched. Similar(ish) in spirit to Bullhead, this beer is made to showcase the quality/qualities of Blue Ox malt, heavily featuring their "Vye-Enna" malt to make a light 'n' fruity BDG. Enjoy!

Pale Ale - American

This is the second entry in our loosely-defined series of single-hop beers made with hops that nobody cares about. This time around we're focusing on Cluster - an old-school American hop that combines lemony citrus character (in times of shortage, it's used as a substitute for Cascade) with a bit of Wild American earthiness. It's a cool lil' hop, and we're showcasing it by using it in a a solid caramel-forward pale ale base that leans a ways toward the red end of the color spectrum.

Come Out And Play

Pale Ale - American

As soon as she learned of Warrior's existence, Jimbo has been itchin' to use it in a single hop beer. And as luck would have it, this lil' hop fits in perfectly with our MO for single hop beers - it's largely flown under the radar (most brewers use it for bittering only) but it brings some cool flavors and aromas to the table - our "expert panel" (Jimbo and Jared drinking warm hydrometer samples) says it tastes like orange candy, but carries a strong spice-rack dried-herb aroma. Solid!

IPA - Imperial / Double

As this is our fiftieth batch, we wanted to do something with a nod towards our first-ever batch, only bigger and better. So we gathered up a figurative ton of Empire Malt, a moderately huge amount of Andrew's Honey, an impractically large amount of hops, and unleashed hell upon our brewing system! The end result is simultaneously dry and fruity, with just the slightest underlying hint of honey; we advise you to grab some while you can, since this beer ain't gonna stick around too long!
